OK... this story begs a few questions: Snakes lacking in players' salaries

Guess what... the Snakes have a very low payroll. Even Dirty Al says so and Carminucci does too:
Quote:
Carminucci estimated St. Joe's payroll at around $84,000, and said it will likely have the lowest salary total in the league for the second straight year. Teams are able to pay somewhat more than the $100,000 salary cap in real dollars because only one-third of the highest paid player's salary and two-thirds of the second highest paid player's salary is counted.
And the first half champions:
Quote:
"We'll probably spend $98,000 or $99,000 of the $100,000 when it's all said and done," Utrup said. "If we're spending $30,000 more, then that means they're only spending $70,000, and that doesn't sound right."
Salary Floor?
Quote:
"The only minimums we have are per player and that minimum is $800 per player," Moushon said. "And the top salary I've seen for an individual is about $4,000. That's about the top amount you can factor in, when you figure you've got to pay 22 guys."
Yes. There is a salary floor $800 * 22 = $17,200.

There's a question about which is the cause and/or effect. Of course Carminucci does point out this isn't new for St. Joe:
Quote:
Blacksnakes Director of Baseball Operations Chris Carminucci, who managed the team in its inaugural season, acknowledged there is a salary disparity between St. Joe and Lincoln, but he estimates it at closer to $20,000. Carminucci downplayed the impact of the salary disparity, pointing out that the Blacksnakes had the league's lowest salary total last year and still managed to win more than 50 percent of its games.
So you can either believe the obvious or wonder why things are so different.
