(I'll never forget seeing Paul in the Midway press box with nothing much to do because they had to broadcast a phone-in talk program instead of a live game.) The Fish will have more reason to keep their schedule from overlapping the Bombers.

It didn't do squat for the Saints, but they carry the Twins and the Twins coverage really got bumped up. I don't even bother with the other sports station unless they have the Wild game on. They also scored the rights to Minnesota Gopher football (enter one liner here) and Gopher hockey. Does 1290 have a sister station where Goldeyes games could get broadcast on in case of conflict with other programming? Posts: 465 Oct 6 11 1:02 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I can't see where there would ever be a conflict in programing on 1290 with regards to Goldeyes games unless the Jets some how miraculeuosly make it to the Stanley Cup finals which are in June. Failing that there isn't anything on 1290 that would interfere with the Goldeyes. Interestingly enough 1290 does have a pre-game show for the Bombers even though they don't carry their games and CJOB ( which carries the Bomber games ) has a pre-game show for the Jets even though they don't carry them. I'm not sure if other stations do that in the US?

Posts: 657 Oct 6 11 7:29 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	!290 already covers the Goldeyes, but where the Goldeyes will win is that TSN 1290 really wants more local sports which is what the Goldeyes are. They want to cover less of the big leagues (which is what they already cover and will continue) and more of what is happening locally. This would give a variety of local sports including the Goldeyes more coverage not only on the feild, but off the feild as well. TSN 1290 and CJOB 68 are bumping heads right now and are in direct competition. The pre game shows are a example of them bumping heads. CJOB just announced a 9 hour Jets show for the weekend and when TSN 1290 heard this, TSN anounced a 12 hour Jets show. But back to baseball and the Goldeyes, I think we will here more than just game coverage with TSN. More interviews with players and coaches, who traded who for who, and possibly a weekly baseball show. I can tell you so far that several local weekly shows have started on TSN Radio which so far includes a local soccer show, MJHL Junior Hockey show plus a few others. So a Goldeyes/AA show could also be in the works come baseball season.

Posts: 923 Oct 6 11 8:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In Minnesota, WCCO was the station spurned when the Twins moved to KSTP which eventually became ESPN1500. WCCO still does a pregame show that they commonly refer to as "the best Twins pregame coverage". I don't think they pull in close to the ratings for it as ESPN1500 does. ESPN1500 last year started doing localized call in shows after every weeknight Twins game whereas WCCO never did, matter of fact, WCCO doesn't do any night sports coverage after 8 pm anymore. KFAN and ESPN1500 seems to be a similar rivalry to CJOB and TSN1290. KFAN even went as far as to switch to a FM frequency, switching dial locations with a talk station owned by the same company. Posts: 120 Oct 12 11 3:08 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	1290 does have two sister stations: 99.9 BOB FM (adult hits) and Fab 94.3 (oldies, which is what 1290 used to be). It's likely that they could shift Jets or Goldeyes games to either station, similar to what CJOB did when Bomber and Moose games overlapped in the playoffs (one game was sent to Power 97.5 [rock]). I don't believe that they'll pull the Bombers over though (at least, in the near future), unless they do want the Goldeyes to take a back seat to everyone. TSN does bump CFL games down 15-30 minutes in a doubleheader if a game is running long, so nothing would be too surprising. I wonder what would happen in Montreal if the Canadiens and Impact play at the same time, if they'd move someone...

But 1290 is only 10,000 watts where CJOB is 50,000. Listening to 1290 you don't have to get very far outside the city for the signal to start failing, especially when they cut back power in the evenings/night. I can't see 1290 getting more power because there is a station on 1250 which could be compromised.

They will be covering the bombers in their shows, but they are not interested in broadcasting their games. TSN already has all the games on TV live and they are going to continue focusing on the TV rights for the bombers and the CFL at this time. So next Goldeye season look for TSN 1290 to broadcast the goldeye games without any conflict.

TSN radio is in the works of getting a new tower and will greatly increase its broadcast range in a giant way. It took a year for 1290 to become TSN radio and TSN 1290 is going to so many changes during the switch over. I asked today and they said that these things take time, but a new broadcasting tower will be going up within a years time and that is when you will be able to hear it crystal clear even beyond city limmits.

Do they have any for Goldeyes baseball or is there not much of a fanbase outside of the Winnipeg area to justify it. ESPN1500 in Minneapolis has a much weaker signal than the Twins former flagship (WCCO) did, but they made sure to have enough affiliates in the 5 state area so that everyone could hear the Twins on radio. Posts: 657 Oct 14 11 8:43 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I am not sure what you mean affiliates for TSN1290. But there is TSN radio right now only in Winnipeg (new), Toronto, and Montreal. TSN bought out 1290 sports radio and has some big plans to upgrade it to a super station. TSN 1290 will be covering all sports in Winnipeg including the Jets and the Goldeyes. Everygame the Goldeyes play should be broadcasted on TSN 1290 plus they will be talking about the Goldeyes more inbetween games. Or were you asking if other radio stations outside of Winnipeg that can not pick up TSN 1290 can hear the game on another station? So far that I know of, none have the TSN rights or Winnipeg Jet rights to broadcast the game. By next year TSN 1290 should be able to be heard on stations outside of Winnipeg.
