Wow!!! Now what if Carl is unable to sell and shuts the doors, could the CBL come to FTW and use Lon Goldstein? Would they be able to use the name Cats if Carl
folded the team? Would you be willing to go to Lon and watch the New Cats play in the CBL? Would this be the beginning of making the CBL into a better league?
Think travel would be much lower along with rosters...

How bout the Ft Worth Panthers! Don't think Carl will let the Beer League have the Cats name!

Fort Worth Panthers I like going even more in the baseball roots and using that!! I would watch the Panthers or a new team in the CBL if it comes to that, I
got to have my minor league fix!!!

The situation is definitely serious but thinking the CoBL would step in is ludicrous.

Bill we just having fun with this! Who would ever imagine the Cats would be in trouble! You think this would be the end of the AA! It's possible think
about it for a moment. Cats and Captains and Diablos and Pelicans go to the ULB. The rest of the AA can go back to the Northren League. Makes sence to me!

Today's article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I think this is what everyone was fearing. It doesn't look good...
http://www.star-telegram.com/business/story/1666738.html It does provide proof that Carl Bell wasn't making all this money that people thought he was. I have been trying to tell everyone that...now maybe more people will understand. |

It's a little bizarre to think that someone would buy the ballpark land and bulldoze the stadium. Though a possibility, I think someone (like the city)
would do something to preserve it since it's a real asset to the community.
I agree that it shows how Carl's vision for the development of the property fell apart very soon after he started (the TCC taking the Radio Shack property). It also should provide a case study on how/why private ownership of stadiums can be a very difficult financial position --especially in a major downtown area. |

If the article is correct, this is more likely with an ownership "group" doing things on a significantly smaller scale Again, IF the worst scenario
happens, as I mentioned, there are lots of folks out there in FW who care about the Cat legacy, have the $$ and could own the "new" Cats in a new
league.

The Cats need a surrounding community such as Southlake to step up and build a stadium for the Cats. Its looking more and more like the AA Cats are gone. I am
looking for the CBL to jump all over Fort Worth and place a team here. I for one will be willing to go to the games and help out with a new team if that
happens..

I'm with Bill on this one. There is no way anywhere on God's green earth the Fort Worth Cats, in whatever form they come back in, will be in the Crappy
Beer League. You need to let it die, Lamearm, because I'll bet good money it ain't gonna happen. Ever. Period. It's going to depend entirely on
whatever ownership comes about that wants to save the Cats. Any owner or ownership group with any intelligence at all will explore all options first. Once they
see how rinky dink the CBL structure is, they'll pass on it. Things don't look good for saving LaGrave right now, for sure. But I'll wait and see
what happens after the "fire sale" everyone seems to be waiting for comes about.
But, there's no way I'd ever go back to see the Cats if they were a part of that bogus league. |

Hey Horse how bout the ULB! Be just like the old Central League with the Dillas, Colts, Roadrunners it's a whole lot better than Crappy Baseball League! Is
there any chance that the Cats can play at Luppton Stadium @ TCU??? Who needs the AA!!! This is just a opinion! Sure hopes it happends!

I think the AA is blowing smoke! Explain all the papers stories! The voltures are flying around Carl Bell and his Trinity dreams! Don't hold your breath
unless the city of Ft Worth steps to the plate and do whats right for the citizens and the Cats fans! This will not end till the smokes clears! I hope the AA
has back up plans in place when the Cats don't have a stadium to play in maybe a travel team? We shall see this is getting to be a soap opera! Stay tune to
Will the Cats go bye bye!!!

The stories don't reflect the facts. All they've "reported" are "stories." I think that Miles and the league are a little closer to
the future of the Cats than the fears raised in the papers.
Things may be bad but I think FtW wants to keep the Cats as they are. If you follow the "papers stories" they may bulldoze the 2nd (3rd) La Grave and kill them outright. We'll still have to wait out the situation but I think Miles & the AA reviewed and discussed the Cats' situation and have a way to keep things going through 2010. |

The Future of LaGrave | ||
|
It is very difficult to separate rumors from reality unless you are the source yourself. I firmly believe that the Cats will be back next year. This is based
not on the rumors or facts that I heard but based on the following details.
1. If LaGrave and all of the surrounding acres are purchased from Carl Bell by a real estate developer(s) they are not going to rush to bulldoze down LaGrave. It is a consensus here in Fort Worth that the development of this land is not going to happen immediately no matter who is the owner. It would cost a lot of money to remove LaGrave Field. No matter who purchases the land I expect this would be one of the last things to occur. It is all about the time value of money... 2. Therefore, if LaGrave is still standing there will be minor league and college (Texas Wesleyan University uses it as their home field) baseball played. The Cats are dying from the DEBT SERVICE and property taxes on LaGrave. It is impossible to turn a profit for the Fort Worth Cats (or probably most any other independent minor league team other than the Saints) by owning a newer facility. Most stadiums are owned by the City/County. They lease it to the team at approromately the amount that it would be accessed in property taxes. If the Cats had this deal, I am sure they could operate in the black. So, if Carl Bell has to give up LaGrave due to large outstanding loans to a bank as reported by the FW Star Telegram then the team would no longer be burdened by the debt service. It may very well go into a type of receivership with zero interest. There are also many other possibilities with this that I will not go into. 3. This leads me to believe that the City and other community leaders will work together to keep LaGrave open because whoever owns the team, they can operate it at no cost to the City if the only costs are true team expenses and nominal lease payments. The lien holder(s)or the City would still come out ahead because they would collect some rent from the use of the facilities. A couple of hundred thousand of dollars in rent is better than zero! 4. Additionally, the facility can be used for many other City uses as I described in a previous message on this topic. So, the Fort Worth Cats will be playing baseball next year. The only question is who will be running the operations and determining ticket prices, etc. Once that is determined all of us season ticket holders will be getting our renewal notices, etc. You Heard it Here First! If it were up to me. I would run the Cats with a lean and mean staff. I would want John Bilbow to remain at the GM to oversee the day-to-day operations and I would want John Dittrich available to John Bilbow for any assistance he may need on more complicated matters. It will then all work out very well and run very smoothly for at least several years Now with that said, I do believe that in five to ten years the Cats will be gone from their current location because the real estate will be to valuable to leave them there. Unless, they could somehow become an affiliated team within that time frame, then they will remain! |

The previous poster hasn't said anything that hasn't been said already, on this forum or in discussions I've had with other fans. We KNOW what the
issue is, alright? We KNOW it's the debt service and property taxes on LaGrave that are forcing Carl to make this decision. It's been that way since
day one when Carl knew what he was getting into. We've brought that up over and over again. We KNOW it's real simple; if those issues can be resolved,
the Cats and LaGrave will be around a very long time. And what did I post earlier about the league meetings making it official? That the Cats will be back next
year. Those owners and Miles wouldn't allow it if there were not some plan in place to keep the Cats going for next year..and maybe after that.
I would hope we all came up with facts on here, not just "If I were running the Cats.." |

Issues at Hand | ||
|
There was an article about Carl Bell's "unfulfilled dreams" in the Sunday's Fort Worth Star Telegram. I could not get the link to paste. Go
to Fort Worth Star Telegram, Sports, Columnists, Jim Reeves and you can read about it on their website. Maybe can someone else can get it to paste.
I am sorry if I have only posted information that everyone knows...I guess it has been other places where I have been reading/hearing that the Cats would not have any financial problems if not for the travel costs, salaries, etc. of the American Association. As everyone here apparently knows that these are not at all the significant financial issues. Those can be easily overcome. The property taxes can also be overcome. I was trying to provide points as to why I think we can believe that the American Association will have the Cats as a team next year. No one currently knows the final outcome for sure. As the above article points out the Bank(s), City governmental entities and potential buyer(s) are trying to work all of this out. The Bank is the controlling entity. Carl Bell can tell them what he hopes to see and he can then tell the American Association what he expects to see from these conversations but he nor no one else knows for sure until the sales transactions are finalized and the new Owner(s) make a decision. I have been in these behind closed doors meetings so many times and have witnessed a plan of action and something completely different was told to the public outside those doors. It is all about people trying to spin things these days. Additionally, sometimes they didn't know what they were going to actually do but they had to say something. Sometimes they changed their plan of action within days after the initial decision. Also, I have not checked the size of the Bank that the estimated $35 million loan is with per a prior Star Telegram article. For the dollar amount of the loan involved there may also be other participating banks involved due to legal lending limits in place based upon the capital (book equity) of the financial institution. Finally, I don't think we will have any real facts until the sale occurs. Until then, it is all speculation because those who do know what is going on are not allowed to speak about it without dire financial consequences. I know this for a fact...I am one who does not know...only speculating. |

Updated Status of LaGrave Field and the Fort Worth Cats | ||

See the following link: http://www.star-telegram.com/news/story/1694633.html
I think it covers just about everything anyone knows or can admit at this point. I believe it will be a while before any resolution is made. My opinion is that none of the potential real estate buyers want LaGrave Field because it is to much of a cash drain. Got to go to work... |
