Congratulations to the FM Redhawks on the 4th Northern League Title. Doug Simunic Managed this to season and playoffs to perfection and in my opinion the Unsung Hero would have to be Jeremy Hauer. Between Hauer and Jeremiah Piepkorn they should be Co/MVPS. The Redhawks sure did get the bats going after playing flat the last week of the regular season.

And just think that about a month ago, we were discussing whether Simi's career in the NoL was over, and last year we were wondering if he would be allowed
to stay after so strongly and publicly criticizing the ownership of the NoL (in "Simmerin' Simmy" in the Northern League forum).
The Railcats are turning into the NoL's equivalent of the Atlanta Braves, making the playoffs year after year and finding themselves a bridesmaid more often than not. Them's the chances you take having two short best of five series like this: having the best record is no guarantee of grabbing the brass ring at the end. All that said, it was a good pennant race, even for the fourth-place spot, and the playoffs in both rounds were highly entertaining. 2009 was a good season. Two more teams next year, only one of them an expansion franchise. And I'll bet that the happiest man in the Northern League is not Doug Siminic; it's Clark Griffith.

It's too bad that a well-deserved forum congratulating Fargo-Morehead had to include those simpleton words of non-wisdom. Find me a team that has made the championship round five years in a row anywhere...well, let's keep it to independent baseball, which is what this forum is about. Well, congratulations to the RedHawks. They just outplayed the 'Cats in all areas. By the way, Rusty, the 'Cats mascot, had fun with the RedHawks' fans by giving them a silly-string shower, but we all knew it was in good fun. By the way, make sure Simi signs the one-year rental agreement on the championship cup, as I expect to see it in its rightful home, Gary, IND, next year! |

the fargo- gary rivalry has been a terrific one over the past five years. While fargo has better regular season numbers head to head the upset in the 2005
championship series started an incredible run of success for Taggert's crew. There is certainly nothing for the railcats and their fans to hang their heads
over.

Son of Big Pardner: If you have a problem with my casual observation, then you are the one with the problem. I was comparing Gary with the Atlanta Braves, who
set a record for success by winning God-only-knows how many consecutive divisional titles but continually get left at the altar during the playoffs. Gary seems
to be having a similar fate here, albeit in a lower league and without having best record each time. They've made the playoffs five consecutive years, and
this is the second straight year they've lost to a team that everyone thought inferior.
You said "find me a team that has made the championship round five years in a row." My point exactly: they have the best record in the NoL in that time, but the playoffs tend to conspire to keep snatching the championship from them. It's one of the few things I like about playoffs. Gary is a good team, but someone else keeps ending up with the laurels. Don't blame me for addressing something we all know. And I could have been much less polite in my statement. The pre-playoff talk in the League-wide forum generally dismissed Fargo from serious consideration (I admit I did as well), with some figuring Gary a mortal lock on the title. As a constant rooter for the underdog, I had to root for Kansas City first, and Fargo second. I'm happy with the result. |

Hey KCK man,Gary does not have the best record over the last 5 year span FM does.Look at each organizations all time winning percentage if you really want to
see how dominant FM has been.Fargo does have 4 championships but the most telling statistic that illustrates how good that they have been is that there have
been six 60 win seasons in the league and FM has done it 5 times.

Before we get into another big discussion like last year when KC won. Hat's off to Fargo, they out played Gary in the series. Gary had a great season
and worked hard to get the top seed. I thought it would be hard for Fargo to go into Gary and win 2 of 3 Gary has been almost untouchable at home this
season. Fargo shut down the "Railcatting" and proved the deserved the title.
I was fun to go down and see the game on saturday, both teams have great fans and it shows. Congratulations on a well earned win! |
