Was last night the final game in X's history?

No. Rumors of the death of the Sioux City Explorers have been ongoing for years.
First, they X's are playing in St. Paul this weekend. (But you probably meant the "last home game at L&C.") Second, I have heard no rumors that they, as a franchise, are going anywhere. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Attendance for this season is worryingly low 1,479/gm which is 500 lower than their average for the past several years. Other AA franchises have been lower and soldiered on for several seasons. I'm sure their circumstances will be part the next owners meeting and efforts will be made to help them recover. |

I doubt the X's read this topic, but they (just) released a "thank you" to the fans for another season. It even goes as far as to mention next season in SC:
We value your loyalty and commitment to the team and we look forward to assuring you have a first class experience with the X's during the 2010 season.Now... if they can find a way to turn it all around like SF and even Shreveport this season. |

Trust me that means nothing! The League would not allow them to fold up shop the day after the season ended. The fate of SC will be discussed at the owners meetings. I also think the owners would want to sell the team and try to make a little of their investment back, another reason to make a statement like we will see you next year. I would say the next month is as crucial as ever for the fate of SC. |

I agree that such a message can mean little and a catastrophic announcement isn't likely at the end of the season. I also talked with Dave Nitz after the
game and they're already talking about having him come back next season. I'd say the odds are more likely that they'll be back than disappear.
I wouldn't be surprised that the owners would be interested in selling. But that's not new either. The Xs ownership has changed hands a few times over the past 17 years. The current owners may want to cut their losses, but they're going to have to find someone to buy it (or take it over). That may be difficult. |
