13K in the park! Wow, where did they put everyone? Nice job, that's impressive!

13,209 was the record set last July 4th in El Paso... The new record is 13,336 set this July 4 in Fort Worth.

As great as it is to have 13K at a game, keep in mind that some facilities cannot physically accommodate that many people. On Thursday night we had the largest
crowd ever for a Saints game at over 9K but could hardly hold much more since that required putting people on the warning track behind snow fencing.

i was at thursday's game....considering the facility doesn't reasonably accommodate 6,300, why inflate the attendance. i get it, fireworks night brings
added interest, it was the start of a long weekend....
but considering the women's restrooms are woefully inadequate, they have to squeeze food/beverage stands anywhere they can just to accommodate 6,300, why does it make sense to shoehorn 3,000 into it? i know they've done it before, but that outfield seating is beyond gimmicky. i know they have to do nutty stuff like that because that's how you sell independent baseball as "fun," and the players aren't valued commodities a la a AAA affiliate, but someday somebody is going to get hurt trying to make a catch against the snow fence. attendance=tickets sold, not people thru the turn styles. regardless, how did they think they could accommodate another 3,000 people in the ballpark? that's ridiculous. and for those who attend regularly, you've just devalued their ticket by making their wait for beer, burgers or biffies that much longer. i think it was a very poor decision by the saints to shoehorn people in, and it will make me think twice about going to a fireworks night at the park. yeah, somebody else will buy the ticket/use the seat i pass up, but they're buying bad word of mouth on a night that they could have easily gained a lot of positive PR out of me had they not tried to shoehorn in a couple thousand people at $5/head. |

The old American Association record would belong to Denver, I believe. Before the Rockies, the Denver Bears played at old Mile High Stadium and they used
to draw a capacity crowd every year on the 4th... something in the 60,000 range. As for Fort Worth, we take a page from the Tim Utrup (current Lincoln GM,
formerly at Sioux City) playbook. Create a contained area which is outside the normal contained area... place extra activities in that area... have a gated
admission to that area... and you can have an attendance that is greater than capacity. I know that the previous post was about St. Paul last Thursday and I
applaud the Saints for the great crowd and the great operation that they run day in and day out. I do want to point out that our big night in Fort Worth on
Saturday had no problems with restroom facilities and concessions did a record business but lines were manageable. The brutal part was the extra inning game
which put the fireworks so late. We are going to look into pre-emptive solutions for that in the future. JPD

did any one take pictures of the crowd in St Paul or in Fort Worth. It would be interesting to see how both teams were able to handle the crowds

I don't have any pictures of the latest warning track crowd. What they do is put up temporary fencing (orange plastic) along the warning track from each
side to the batters eye in center. They place two rows of folding chairs behind that.
As for Ft Worth, I imagine that a lot of the berm along the levee is called into use. |

It's the july 2nd lincoln at st paul game. i've seen it before (our cable provider has fox sports minnesota and shows saints games now and then). i feel bad for both the players and the everyday saints fans. edit: if you go to the 59 minute mark of the broadcast and watch for about five minutes they show two pretty impressive catches by brent krause over the past couple seasons.

how many extra seats does the warning track provide, 500? where do they come up with space for the other 2,500? that's ridiculous to expect 2,500 people to
crowd into areas that don't offer a view of the field. yes, there are some nooks/crannies that provide some view of the diamond, but not enough for 2,500.

They also pack the corners with multiple rows. I haven't counted the number of chairs (on either side) but there's also a lot of SRO possibilities out
there too. They also probably allow a lot of "fashionably late" seating (where people can sit in open reserved seats).
As for the actual turnstile count, it would be interesting to know how many ACTUALLY went in. |

it would be interesting to know what the real attendance was...it was darn good...i haven't seen the stands that packed pre-game, and i doubt i've ever
seen that many people in the stands 3 hours after the game began.
this past sunday, in contrast, was far more pleasant of an environment. they sold something like 5,200 for the game, so it wasn't ridiculous trying to access amenities. and it was a great day...not humid, not hot...about as good of a sunday as you can ask for. |
