He was taken out by Schaumburg Catcher looks like he will be gone for the season

That sucks. Speaking of sucking, wow does Schaumburg stink. Yet even in that bombing, the Goldeyes didn't hit one home run. Crazy. I was looking for you tonight caretaker. Was that you in the all star game cap?

Good thing that game was on Shaw, I hope Forney sends that tape in, and that someone at the NL Office has a VCR or DVD player. I guess Forney is on the hunt for a SS now. I think Frost will do good in the meantime, probably move everyone up a spot in the lineup, maybe put Brown in the 2 hole behind Asanovich until Metheny gets back. Forney will probably add an infielder ASAP with Metheny out still.

To me it looked like there was no intent to injure. Like bigZ said "What an ignorant slide by a frustrated player". Let's hope Wes recovers quickly. PS Brent says he will play today.

As much as I hate seeing any player hurt, it looked to me as a clean slide to avoid the tag on a double play. Check the playback on the web-site at about 1:14 into the game Let's hope Wes Long will be back soon. but what was ignorant was throwing a pitch at Mercado the next time he was at the plate. Not once but twice. The Cruse should have thrown out, period, we was warned after the first pitch and threw at him again! He would never tell a player to do that. Cruse had excellent control. The first pitch was behind the batter and not up high. The second was in the dirt. Both missed. Both sent a strong signal. Once that was done, he setteled back in. He pitched a gem of a game.

That's the signal that should have been sent. We've lucky it didn't turn into a street fight. The umpires need to keep control on the problem and not following up on the warning only leads to fights or players getting hurt. Really, it was stupid of Cruse to throw the pitch behind Mercardo in the first place, you're up by 12 and you do that.

Forney will probably add an infielder ASAP with Metheny out still. Metheny was activated today so he should be in the line up this afternoon. I think Frost will do fine filling in for Long. Forney will probably look for a utility infielder that can come off the the bench.

Rick wouldn't have to tell a pitcher to throw at an opponent, the pitcher would know by other means. Obviously the Goldeyes were not happy about losing one of their key players. Pitchers protect position players and if they felt a Flyer 'took out' one of their own it is only natural they are gunna want to retaliate, and that is usually done by way of the 'purpose' pitch. It doesn't sound like Mercardo did much to escalate the situation even after the second pitch. As a pro he understood the situation and the 'purpose'. The best way he can retaliate is to pound the ball in the near future. Something like this is much more likely to happen when the score is 12-0 then when it's 3-2. You can afford a little baseball vigilanteism when you have a big lead.

I cheap slide would have been going after him with the spikes out, instead Mercado almost was sitting on them. Also listen to the play by play and they say that Long looks like he hurt himself by landing wrong. It was just an unfortunate injury on the play, nothing else.
