There is/was some motel near the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway and I-290. If you won't have transportation of your own, try METRA which IS walking distance of the ballpark and would allow you to stay at any number of places along that route including downtown (anywhere near Union Station).

You might be able to get them to drive you there and back.
