ST. PAUL, MN (May 5, 2008) - For two weeks Jon Secrist got to live out his dream with the St. Paul Saints. The 53-year-old knuckleballer pitched in two exhibition games, but on Monday afternoon Secrist was released from the club, ending his chances of making the 2008 Opening Day roster.

Secrist made his second and final appearance in spring training Monday morning. In one inning of work, Secrist allowed three runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two. He was informed of the decision by Saints manager George Tsamis following the game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Midway Stadium.

"Jon did a good job here," said Tsamis. "He fit in well and worked hard. We wish him the best of luck."

Secrist looked good in his first outing against the Ibaraki Golden Golds on April 29. He tossed 2.0 innings allowing one run on one hit while walking one and striking out two. The very first batter he faced was a 4'7" female player on the Japanese team, whom he walked.

In 1999 Secrist pitched in two games for the Saints and was 0-1 with a 9.34 ERA in two games.
