Anyone catch the Flyers website with the advertisement for "homeless baseball players". I know players are the ponds in the game of baseball but do
we need to insult them too? What do you guys think?

It is an insult to the players. It's an insult to the homeless! Whom ever thought this up should be fired! and the team should retract the email and
issue an apology. They should also donate to a homeless shelter. There is nothing funny about being homeless, truely, this is poor taste
Incase you missed it....
HOST FAMILIES: THE ANSWER TO BASEBALL PLAYER HOMELESSNESS
His is just one of many Schaumburg Flyers who desperately need your help this 2008 season. This baseball player, like so many others, is in need of a caring and generous host family to give him a place to live. For the simple cost of a load of laundry and maybe even a bowl of Wheaties in the morning, you too can make a difference in the life of a professional baseball player. Once you decide to be a host family, you will receive 4 season tickets to the Schaumburg Flyers. You'll also receive a picture of your baseball player to hang on your refrigerator as well as a progress report to keep track of your player's height, weight and OBP. Please, don't wait. Help a baseball player today. Call now at (847) 891-2255 Ext 110. |

I'm glad you guys agree. I thought I was the only one. For some reason I'm not surprised this comes from Flyer land.

c'mon guys....its a pr ploy.........
its a game on and off the field...... they didn't show any real homeless people or anything like that...... lighten up............... and instead of jabbering about the homeless...go to your mission tommorrow and do something..... this week I'm going to the local kmart where winter gloves are anywhere from 1.00 to 3.00 on clearance and pick up 50 pairs for the local mission here which is 3 blocks away from the field ...... mike |

All the teams do this and while this one maybe is a bit on the salty side of good taste, it doesn't bother me as much as maybe some others.
How effective is this sort of outreach? |

Looking for host families is nothing new, but I think this approach wasn't the best. Working downtown I see the homeless every day, it's true a sad
thing to see. It's nothing to make light of.
When the Kansas City T-Bones come into town, they will be transformed into the legendary Kansas City Monarchs and the Schaumburg Flyers will wear the uniforms of the equally famous, Chicago American Giants. These two Negro League powerhouses will renew their rivalry for one more magical night this summer, which promises to be one of the more anticipated baseball events in the Chicagoland area in 2008.That willl be fun to see. I know KC is running something similar Friday, July 18 - Salute to Negro Leagues/Buck O'Neil Night. Wonder if the teams will be wearing the uniforms that night too.
