Has anyone heard who the new hitting coach will be for the Railcats?
I know Brian Nelson took the field manager job with the Windy City Thunderbolts this off-season. Has anyone heard any new player signings? |

Not heard who it will be but Greg should go after Ira Smith who was the hitting coach for the Jackhammers last year. I haven't seen where he is with any
other team right now and why the Hammers didn't keep him is really dumb even if he was Hal's man. I know Ira and he is a GREAT person and a good
baseball man.

Ira Smith would be an excellent addition in Gary. He is a former NCAA Batting Champion from UMES, and highly respected in the baseball arena.

I do agree w/that, but I know that Tagert tries to get young up and coming coaches that are looking to be managers.
Ira has been a hitting coach for a while but has never accepted a manager position. I don't think this would be a good fit for the Railcats. I think what you got with Brian Nelson and Andy Haines was that young outstanding work ethic. Because I'm sure both of their goals were to be field managers in minor league baseball. And it happened quick for both of them. |
