I think many regular readers of this board were expecting something along these lines. May 3rd and 4th the Kansas City T-Bones, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks,
Lincoln Saltdogs, and Wichita Wingnuts will meet in Kansas City for several exhibition games.

It does seem logical that interleague play would come along but it has the same real drawbacks as the abomination they use in the MLB format. If you can't play everybody, it's not a level field. It is a sensible alternative to more expansion. IF the AA and the NoL were to go interleague for just two 3-game home and home series, what's the total number of games? A bunch is what. Then again, if interleague play is just for the rivalry factor, OK ... I'd go for that but ... going in ... we agree that there is NO WHINING when the team YOU played is .600 and the one I played is .450. I do know the RailCats played some pre-season games with the T-Bolts and Rockford last year. Not quite this early in the season, however. Will the teams be ready that soon? |

Or more aptly, "spring training tryout games with a designated purpose."
I know I'd be among the ticket-buyers. |

You got it JU. They are tryout/warm-up games with a "designated purpose." Short of starting spring training all the earlier (especially for the NoL),
no team will be really prepared at the start of May 3 for competition.
Another benefit of this is that they can play a bunch of games in one ballpark, evaluate their own talent, consider trades with other teams, and save money. Then there's that remote hope it might spur more inter-league activity. Also... Where's Clark's comment on this? He's become pretty quiet and Harry's giving all the quotes. |

As I suggest, I don't think interleague play is a bad goal or a misplaced objective.
The indie leagues have to survive and I especially would promote anything that keeps the RailCats alive. To that end, whatever it takes. The RailCats are much more important to NW Indiana than a lot of folks are inclined to believe. So if the long-range objective is to interleague play, let's go for it. I think I'd rather see it with the AA and the NoL than with the Frontier, though. |

WOW, that 4 team event in KC sounds fun and interesting, of the teams I follow most, SF and SC, SF starts the season on the road in Fort Worth, with the league
starting yet earlier again, chances are all the pre-season games will more than likely be against SC and maybe Lincohn or Saint Paul or a college team. I know
its only pre-season, but, I think if the AA was really interested in inter-league play, this would be a great time to explore it, as they are in KC

One would presume that it is the Northern League that is more interested in interleague play.
I'd think that if the AA had entertained this notion first, the games would be in an AA ballpark. |

Whats the big fuss. The AA and northern league played exhibition games last season no big deal.

I don't see this as fuss, caretaker, as a desperate attempt by us baseball junkies to find anything of value to discuss as the snow has landed and covered
up the Field of Dreams.

We played a few with the AA's St. Joe Blacksnakes prior to 2007 season. Convenience, more than anything else. Didn't indicate a thawing between AA
and NoL, though.
I wasn't aware these 2008 pre-seasons had been scheduled, but, believe me, they're welcome!! Andy's obviously very interested in the learning and familiarization benefits these events embody as evidenced by his request to extend a game with St. Joe last year beyond the scheduled nine. My one request, by the way, has been voiced: I'd LOVE to see the 'Bones start a tradition and play the Kansas City Kansas Community College in pre-season EVERY year! Those kids gave 'em more trouble than St. Joe! A GREAT game that everyone enjoyed (including the players!) |

I'd like to see the Bones take two out of three from the Royals!

Shame on you John! | ||

Some years ago, St. Paul offered to take on the Twins' AAA affiliate team - and got no response. Results could've been embarrassing...

Oh! Oh! Pardon me for being guilty of over-posting...

...but I'm REALLY excited about this T-Bones preseason affair and will be contacting Ms. Sara today to get pricing for TWO seats for the festivities! YOU
KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS, ROCK!!! Your attendance is mandatory and necessary as there will be some Rock-friendly changes at CAB this year (I hope...). If anyone
else wants to join us, I'll buy the tickets! Just let me know!
P.S. except for Billy Casper who's been doggin' me mercilessly in the off-season... |

er, Billy CHAPEL, I mean!

Who was "Billy Casper" anyway? Golfer, gopher, Grand Lymph Node of some exotic fraternal lodge??

mcarlsonus wrote: Sorry, man, couldn't do it this weekend. I had some family commitments both days, and I just couldn't justify paying full regular season price to
see an exhibition game. The "Rock-friendly" changes I would want to see are (A) less artificial noise in the place (I can handle crowd noise, but
Whopperman had damned well better be dead), AND a team in the field that is actually intent upon contending.
I haven't attended a Royals game since 1994 and don't plan to be back as long as they're still a Wal-Mart franchise. The T-Bones ain't no big thing on that scale; I could skip a season or two and not miss them. . . |

You don't have to show up for Mitch in the preseason, but you will be required to show up at the end of July for the Flyers series on the 18th thru the 20th so we can discuss who's too good for the NoL this season. |

Even if I've reconciled with them, I'll probably have no idea who's too good for the league any more than I did last year.
Man, I miss Calvin. Of course, I miss Eddie Pearson as well.
If I'm still boycotting the T-Bones, maybe we'll get together before the game on Saturday and I'll take you out to see the Negro Leagues Museum. As a Negro Leagues researcher, I can give the tour myself. Does anyone know why this forum is seven hours ahead of GMT? Is it in Hanoi?
