A friend in Minneapolis would like me to bring him some Kokanee.
Does anyone know the limit of the amount of Canadian beer that I may import "for personal use"?

I will be visiting the twin cities, coming from Winnipeg, on the weekend for a Vikings game.

Funny you should ask... | ||

It just so happens I've had that information on nlfan.com
for over 10 years (or so).
Duty-Free Limits (for Canadian citizens leaving the US) * 1 liter alcohol per adult 21 years of age or older * 200 cigarettes * 100 cigars And there's always the C$200 limit (per person) for 48+ hour stay in the US; C$50 for a single day. When in doubt, check the Canadian Consular Affairs site. |

Those are the limits for bringing stuff back into Canada.
I want to take beer INTO the states for consumption there. Is there a limit for the amount I can bring from Canada into the USA for personal consumption. |

Sorry I didn't understand what you meant by "import."
There probably are but the ones they normally provide are for US citizens. They may apply to you as well since customs laws apply. On the my main Canadian travel page there is a link that might help for the U.S. Customs Department. |

Thanks Bill,
I called the customs office in Pembina. There is no limit for personal consumption. (You are not allowed to bring it into to US to give or sell to someone.) Up to one case (12) per person there is no duty. Over that there is a duty of about a dollar a case |

PS the 48 hour exemption is now at $400

Thanks for the information about travel to Canada. I am seriously thinking of taking a side trip to Winnipeg, say around late June/early July during my annual
foray to Iowa and of course, going to St Paul for a day or two before heading to Winnipeg. I'm waiting for the CFL schedule to come out and maybe can tie
together a couple nights where I can catch a Blue Bombers' game and a Goldeyes game as well.
Right now I'm just in an information gathering process, so this is neither yea nor nay with me right now. If I read what I have found right, as of next year I have to have a passport to drive OR fly into Canada? |

Even if it's not "officially" required, a passport makes a Canadian border crossing easier. If you fly it's required; on land it makes
returning easier.
