I agree that CB and StJ are pretty much a package deal. Short of adding a road club, the Blacksnakes may be next to go. If true, so much for expansion this season.

It's odd the ULB wasn't available for comment; they must be thrilled to capture this former AA facility. With expansion to Brownsville, they can have the pairing team they need --and right in the area where they have the most clout. Given the (few) local fans I talked to in Robstown, there are people who have no intention to go to Whataburger. The question is could they generate enough interest with four SoTX opponents to help generate profitable attendance. Certainly travel costs would be quite tolerable though I wonder how they might split the league into divisions ("Rio Grande" and "The Rest").

The CoBL would think they could make it work at 800 a game. The problem is that the operating costs for a facility like Fairgrounds Field are a lot higher than the dinky places their clubs usually play in. About the only real advantage the CoBL has is that they already have a "spare franchise" (road club) to put in it.

Whatever the case, it's a good thing I saw some games their this summer. I still be able to put up a proper "memorial guide" to the club.

The CoBL is mainly a press release generator IMO. Having talked to people who've seen one of their games (hello horseraider) they're a joke --unless you're a kid who wants to shag foul balls for Cokes.

I do think the GBL ULB would be a better fit than the AA there (for the reasons listed above). I know I've said rilvaries are not major source of increased attendance but putting four clubs within 200 miles of each other is pretty amazing and something they could tap into; there are few places where you'll find five indy clubs so closely bunched. You may just be able to get some groups of fans to make regular trips..

The city is not taking over the team. They're suing to get their money. They do not get any ownership of the club but could try selling any tangible assets left on the property (again, like they did in Duluth when the Dukes moved to KCK).

Since Miles has stated that Wichita is a new franchise, that would mean the rights to the Aviators players would most likely be put into a dispersal draft (and the same for St. Joe if they fold).

They could change that, but it's unlikely. Legally/Business-wise it's best to keep them separate entities; a "move" might allow Nueces County to sue the new franchise for the Aviators expenses. Another option, which the former NoL clubs did, was to "release" all the players and then re-sign them.
