These forums are open and free to all.
There are some rules.
1. You must register to post. (why? because it helps keep the "riff raff" out, especially those who want to post "we rool, u drul" junk)
2. No spam. -- Automatic and permanent ban.
3. No swearing. These forums are intended for an adult audience but kids will visit. (let them be bored, not telling their parents the "new words" they read)
4. Try to stay on topic. Meandering topics are acceptable, but "hard left turns" that have no relationship (serious threadjacking) at all to the topic title will lead to comments from yours truly. Keep it up and you may earn a "time out."
5. If you reference something online... PLEASE provide links to it! It's very annoying to have someone post that they just read something online and not provide a link to it so people can check it out themselves. It doesn't have to pretty (meaning a nice text link); it can simply be a copy/paste into the content.
6. Do NOT post entire newspaper/magazine articles. That is a copyright infringement and subject to possible legal action (to me). It's quite appropriate (and legal) to quote sections from articles. Since most news stories have a lot of information that's been discussed previously in the forums, it's often easy to pull the "key quotes" from them that describe what's new or what's changed.
Note: This does not (usually) apply to press releases from teams or league. Those are specifically intended to be freely distributed.
7. Keep topics related to the Northern League, American Association, baseball or things closely related to them. People who want to cheer on teams from other (indy) leagues, other sports and things not related (at all) to baseball can certainly find other venues (here or elsewhere on the web) to satisfy their need to celebrate/post. Such posts are likely to be pruned without comment --post them again and you'll earn a "time out."
8. Keep to the facts when possible. Provide references, preferably online, if possible with the stats or figures that support your post. Opinions are fine, but backing them up makes a much better argument/debate.
9. Do not make personal or verbal attacks on other posters, players, umpires, and/or league officials. Do not post under "xxxxSucks" or other "cutesy" names. Depending on the severity of the offense you may not get a second chance.
Bottom line:
I don't like to do any more work than I have to. Pruning spam, banning members and having to mediate arguments in flame wars is not something I want to spend a lot of time doing. I have a lot of tolerance for many things in the forums (and I'm nothing if not tenacious in an online argument) but annoy me or really upset others and I'll probably have to do something about it.
Thanks.
