WINNIPEG — Recent format changes have done little to reverse the ratings fortunes of two Winnipeg radio stations.

Sports Radio 1290 and classic rock station K-Rock — formerly known as oldies station CFRW and country station Hank, respectively — remained near the bottom of the commercial radio ratings heap with less than two per cent of local listeners aged 12 and up tuning in, according to the fall BBM book released Thursday.

K-Rock, with a 0.7 per cent share of the market, was launched in July, while Sports Radio 1290, with a 1.2 share, switched formats in mid-September, weeks after the Sept. 6 to Oct. 31 survey period began.

The majority of programming at both stations is syndicated and features little local content.

Holding steady in the No. 1 position was news station CJOB with a 18.6 per cent share, up 2.4 per cent from a year ago. The music station of choice remains top 40 station Hot 103, which earned an 11.8 per cent rating, up slightly from last year’s 11.2 per cent. Rounding out the top five are CBC Radio 1 with a 9.6 per cent share (down 1.7 per cent), country station QX-104 with a 9.3 share (up 0.2) and modern rock station Power 97 with a 7.9 share (up 1.6 per cent).
