Flags from the departed Edmonton and Calgary teams still fly in the Schaumburg Club. Maybe for old time's sake.

Probably because an intern doesn't know any better.

I don't recall seeing Canadian flags flying at most ballparks (minor or major) unless the visiting team is from there. It wouldn't be a terrible idea,
but I suspect they may not have enough flag poles around.
What about state flags? And on that subject you WILL find that Texas ballparks all seem to have the State Flag flying (like in El Paso below). You don't see that in most other states.

Steel Yard has Old Glory and the Indiana banner up but have added the NoL championship pennant. I don't think there is room now for the Canadian flag, so
they will maybe have to make a deal when the Goldeyes come in. I don't know how high that is on their agenda as they can just "fly it" on the
Jumbotron during the anthem.

Flying the Canadian Flag | ||

I have one and will wave it every time my "son" Kai pitches. My mother taught me to come out of the rain, but Saturday night I sat in the rain with my umbrella waving his flag. Because Dave Detienne lived with us last year, I'm probably one of the few "lower 48's host mom" who knows their National anthem and is moved as much as if it were my own. But if you think of the irony, last year on Winnipeg's team, I think there were only 4 or 5 Canadians and only 1 (I think) was actually from Winnipeg-- Max. But I did tell Kai that my flag, sweatshirt, and Beefeater hat would come out only when he's pitching and Winnipeg comes to town. But as I said last year, if there is one thing I learned (when we went in July) from the 'Peg fans--"Good baseball is good baseball, no matter what the play."

My guess is that they will take down the State of Indiana Flag and fly the Canadian Flag when the Goldeneyes come to town. I know at Schaumburg they fly both
flags when the visiting team is Canadian and they sing both national anthems.

Someone Canada can correct me, but when I've seen intra-Canadian games I don't recall them flying a US flag. Certainly they're aren't any of
those this year, but I don't remember seeing one when I was in Calgary and they were playing the C-Cats. Perhaps someone in Winnipeg has a memory of the
Goldeyes hosting the Vipers, C-Cats --or even the Whiskey Jacks.

There is certainly no constitutional requirement that the banner of any country be flown.
It would seem easy enough to put up another flagpole if it's needed but the NoL banner at the Steel Yard can also be moved to another location. The way they are playing, won't be one for 2008! |
