I was at the Saints game with the Ikibara Golden Golds, that doesn't mean the league's going international. I was at Sunday's game against the Fish where we had 2 DHs on both teams, that doesn't mean the game rules are changing. Other than allowing some communications between teams it's all about keeping travel costs down.
I don't think I should need to make clear that there are still NO regular season interleague play between the NoL and anyone else. I just posted last week in this very topic McFeely's comments on the subject. I guess I need to repost his comments (original In-Forum story)?
"We've made it clear to the American Association that we think interleague play would be great for the players, great for the fans, great for both leagues," Stavrenos said. "But at this point, with them having 10 teams, we need it much more than they do. I'm not sure they see it as something they need right now."For the record: pre-season interleague play started last season and has really gone nowhere significant. REAL interleague play would still (somewhat) ugly since it's only a stopgap measure that doesn't really help the NoL get back to its former (higher) status with team count. As I said before, the NoL's initial negativity to the AA and public statements (at that time) that there "would NEVER be interleague play" have done a lot to eliminate the option that they now would very much like to have.
American Association commissioner Miles Wolff, speaking from the catbird's seat, confirmed as much.
"I'm getting no indication from my directors that they are terribly interested in interleague play or a merger," Wolff said. "Right now there's been nothing very substantive on that front."
What does the KCK series mean? Almost nothing. About all it does is concentrate some exhibition games in KCK who, if they're not making money on the deal (either at the gate or reduced travel costs), probably won't host it again. Again, all it does is reduce travel costs since KCK has no team withing 400 miles of it and if they can get other clubs to travel to them and never have to hire a bus, more power to them.
