Cooter Roberts and R. D Speihs were placed on the inactive list this week. What does that mean? Are they finished? Or, is this some kind of a roster move to hold them for a while as they evaluate other talent? I see that St. Paul also put Charlie Ruud on the inactive list as well. Seems odd they would be dumping him as he was one of their top pitchers last season.

Inactive lists are often used as a way to keep a player on a club and entering the release/waiver process. It may be used for players who cannot play on the club for personal reasons. It's also not unusual to see players with "phantom" injuries on the DL for similar reasons. Having seen Rev. Ruud in uniform in Miesville just last night it's certain he's staying with the club.

The "inactive" list is just that, a place to "hide" players you don't want to lose until they can come back from injury, or whatever personal reasons the player has for not being able to report on time. It can be called sort of a "leave of absence" list. The Cats have utilized the inactive list much in this way in the past. Right now, their starting 2B last year, K.J. Hendricks, is on that list because he's finishing up at school, from what I heard, and will be available once that is over at the end of this month. Last Edited By: HorseRaider 8-May-08 05:34:22. The LJS is reporting that Lusero is on the inactive list and will join the team later in the road trip. According to the team and AA website, Lusero was released and Mark Roberts is on the inactive. I think I will believe the AA website and not Ken Hambleton.

I got in on the tail end of the conversation but that's probably the reason.

You can not pay, house or give any other benefits to a player that is on the inactive list. Usually teams with deeper pockets put players on the inactive and then pay them on the side to keep them in town.
