You're right.... most fans don't care about the opposition, with the exception of natural rivalries, such as Winnipeg and Fargo, which was fueled in the early days by Fargo's hiring of Doug Simunic and Jeff Bittiger away from Winnipeg. But.... what does become problematic is the small number of teams. While it is true that fans don't really care who you play... they can become a little bored at the sight of the same teams too often. As they say, "variety is the spice of life"... for the Northern League it is more about variety than about "interleague". Neither the American Association teams, nor the Northern League teams for that matter, care about "proving" themselves vs. another league. The primary interest of each and every league is to have a balanced number of teams (for balance of schedule purposes), and having reasonable travel. That is why the AA would like to add two teams.... to balance the schedule.... and preferably they would like to place them in the center of the current grouping to create a decent travel schedule. The added benefit of this is some nice, natural rivalries. It is as simple as that. JPD
