The Phillies really seem to be scouring the independent leagues these days, probably due to having Mal Fitchman on board and the success of fan favorite Chris Coste. Also on the roster is Mike Cervenak, the former Chillicothe Paint. Hi General Manager I would like to suggest all major league teams are looking at independent leagues. Have you looked and seen how many Northern League and American Association players are presently playing in major league lineups as well as the many in the farm teams.

In following league transactions and Bob Wirz's weekly columns, it is pretty easy to keep tabs on all the former indy players/umpires/front office staff plying their trades with the affiliates. Perhaps you misinterpreted my comment...it was intended to suggest that lately the Phillies have been signing more players from the independent leagues than most of the other teams.

You are probably right, when you only mentioned a few individuals I may have misinterpreted what you were saying I believe there are many more everyday players from independent leagues
