Any Word On Bryan Warner Yet? |
Lead | |
|
Is he returning as a player/coach? Just a coach? Not at all? The local newspaper pretty much ignores the Saltdogs until the season starts and even then
their coverage is lacking.

Nudan,
When you have Ken Hambleton covering your team for the LJS, expect as little effort as possible. Brent Wagner has done a great job covering the Stars this year. Put him on the 'dogs beat! He has a Stars blog and keeps it up to date. I would bet that Kenny H doesn't even know what a blog is. At least he can write a bunch of "funny" columns using sports cliches. He hasn't written one in about a week, so he's due. |

The point stands...why hasn't the LJS put any effort in to covering the Saltdogs? How difficult would it be for Ken Hambleton to call up his contacts with
the Dogs and ask them about the coming season. Warner is a fan favorite and has been for 7 seasons...some of us want to know if he's returning and if so
in what capacity. Any news I get in the offseason about the Dogs comes from this forum. Pichi is another fan favorite that I thought was not coming back and
heard through this forum that he is indeed coming back...why can't our local paper follow what's going on???

How do you know that Warner isn't coming back? This is an anonymous forum so for all I know you could be blowing smoke - which goes to my point that the
newspaper is not doing its job of reporting. I'd like to hear something official.
As far as looking for someone younger to go with over Warner I'll still take Warner's bat, arm and experience over anyone else we could pick up. I understand if he wants to move on and I don't really blame him so if he's not coming back I hope it was his decision and not managements.

As verified by one of the Saltdogs, Brian Warner will not be coming back. The team decided not to keep him, this was not his choice. Not a good way to send off
one of your more respected players that is also a fan favorite. I heard he is working for UPS....

Maybe I'm wrong, but hasn't Bryan been the guy over the years that played hurt, sick, had the surgeries (knee, I think) put up the Numbers, aside from
moving his family to Lincoln and being the Saltdogs ambasador in the community. I'm sure there are many other things that could be listed here that Bryan
has done for the team. I thought all of these things were done for basically 2 reasons, 1) Bryan loves to play and gives his best every night and 2) And more
to the point of my post, He was the Next Manager of the Saltdogs. I have posted on this site before that PLAYERS like Bryan at some point need to move over and
let the next guy in, I still think that way, but, to keep him around these last years with the promise of being the Manager, then BAM a so-so season and
he's shown the door. Not the Saltdogs proudest moment, assuming of course that this is all true about him not coming back, as there has been nothing from
them.

heres the thing that bugs me you guys come on here have your painted picture of what you see maybe thats how they use to feel about him and just maybe that
they have realized that maybe its time to change things cause what we have isnt working, maybe theres more to what you just see yourself. so dont go bashing
the organization with this. us as fans dont see everything i mean i love bryan dont get me wrong. but maybe they dont see him as a coach anymore

Team Batting 301 ave, 57-36 win-loss, but no RING, thats what this is about right. I guess that makes it alright to have Mr Warner run out on to the field
night after night, thinking, well at the End of this Rainbow I'll be the Manager, oops, Sorry Dorothy, not happening. So its about the RING, my guess is
Mr. Warner had nothing to do with pitching in the playoffs, but heads did roll, allegedly

I agree with aawatcher. He was given the opportunity (initially) to be a manager/coach in the future and because of the playoffs that opportunity has been
taken away. Obviously, the pitchers failed to produce, as well as the other big hitters (Pichi Balet, among others). Wasn't Brian injured at one point?
Shouldn't the other players have stepped in? He should, at least, be given a retirement ceremony. I think the Saltdogs are just afraid of what he will
say....

Wow, if all of this is true it's really depressing. I do hope they have some kind of Bryan Warner night.

I think it was kind of assumed that Bryan would follow his playing career with coaching and then possibly taking over management duties with the team. I had
never heard that to be fact, though. The blame for the playoff losses can be laid at the feet of many. If this is true, it reflects poorly on the organization.
Bryan played hard, was out in front defending teammates if benches cleared, and treated fans with kindness and respect. I remember him making a running, diving
catch in RF in St Joe in 2006 in extra innings in a game that meant nothing since the team had already wrapped up a playoff spot. The reception from his
teammates as he returned to the dugout showed me that he truly was the "captain". I was reminded of the realities of indy baseball when my daughter
and I were down by the player's tunnell after a game getting autographs. Jim Haller and Jim Allen were keeping Jason Howerton from entering the tunnel
after informing him that he had been released after he had just pitched a couple innings in a relief appearance. The look on Jason's face told me all I
needed to know about what these players face trying to make a living playing a game that they love. I know from a couple of sources that Bryan has visited this
site in the past and I want to wish him the best in whatever his future holds. I would like to see him in 'Dogs uniform for years to come, but I guess
I'm selfish and don't understand independent baseball (as NL fan has accused me of in the past).

If true, this is indeed sad. My 9 year old son idolizes the 'Dogs in general and "B-Dub" in particular. He had a really rough go of it a couple
of years ago when Cory Harris was cut loose in mid season. As others have said, I guess those are the realities of indy ball. I too, was in the park the
night Jason Howerton was let go, and could tell something was up. I thought that was a curious move given how hard up we were for even mediocre pitching last
season. As I recall, a couple of our "rejects" came back and bit us on the butt after we let them go, and I believe Jason was one of them. As a
diehard fan from day one, it is quite painful to watch the 'Dogs kick butt and run up the score when it seemingly doesn't matter and then fall flat in
the games that do matter. That does cause one to wonder what's missing or what needs fixed. Unfortunately, I don't think taking Bryan out of the
equation makes things better.

The Saltdogs finally make it official - http://www.saltdogs.com/news/releases/index.html?article_id=283
Sounds like it might have been an amicable split - I hope so. They definitely need a night to honor Bryan this coming season.

This is disappointing, but not really surprising. There is an article in today's Lincoln Journal-Star that is worth reading..
(with BW gone, Pichi and JP maybe not coming back...I'm not too excited about the new season. I wish TJ would get fired. If he has a successful year with a young team, I might change my opinion of him) |
