Only reason you should let you kids play soccer is if you know they suck. In baseball if your kid strikes out 4 times you know he sucks. In soccer no one can
score anyway so its not as obvious to everyone else that your kid sucks.

...well, so much for that excuse, anyway!
Still no news on the tax thing. It's like they paid the minimum to avoid seizure, and then the City/County conglom completely forgot about it! By the way, you have to come down at least ONCE this next season! Unless I'm completely out of touch (which is generally the case, I admit!), Nellie'll be back! |

time. He's getting married next month, so I'd say he's hung up his spikes for the last time in KC. I could be wrong, things could change in the
spring. |

Does "GM" mean he's staying in baseball though?

Looked at Northern League transactions...

...and he's on the list for being re-upped for 2008 - along with virtually everyone else, including the "underrated" Calvin P. (that's for
Rock). Shlichting's been signed by the Phils ( ! ). So, no new pitchers to report yet. I see Dan Jackson's coming back.

Soccer construction begins...
|
BPD noted this story from the KC Kansan: Conversion begins at CommunityAmerica
There are no pictures of the (re-)construction but... "Right now, we're in the process of grading and leveling the infield so we can lay sod down," said Don Frantz, head groundskeeper at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. "We're going ahead and converting the baseball field to a soccer surface now so it will be ready to go right away in the spring."So there's new sod at the CAB. I'll be curious how the surface conversions affect the two sports. BPD mentions that "the Rochester Red Wings (Class AAA; International League), experienced problems when dealing with similar turf conversions." |

Are baseball players going to be happy with bermuda?
I haven't heard that it's all that great for baseball. |

According to this article, they say they will now have an all sod
infield. So they are getting rid of the dirt baselines. Fun, Fun, Fun.

This comment struck me as interesting. Customizing the speed of ground balls could be an interesting issue for
the manager. If his shortstop has no range, then what?
"With all-sod, infielders can expect a constant surface. It's definitely a positive thing, but from a cosmetic standpoint, it'll be a new experience for the fans." Frantz continued, "We'll also be able to customize the speed of groundballs. Although the field will look different, I'm confident fans and players alike will soon come to appreciate the new surface." |

Think the thing about bermuda...
|
...is probably more along the lines of tolerance. Summers here can be brutal, and the ever-present bluegrass/rye blend one sees in the average 'burb do
"just okay." Bermuda makes more sense, really, But grass on the base paths... I suspect this'll be a maintenance nightmare that won't
last long, "levelling" or no levelling.
By the way, I had a customized ground ball once, but it got stolen... |

And, Billy... | ||
|
...on behalf of the management and ownership of the Kansas City T-Bones Professsional Baseball Team, we'd like to request you not talk so loud and,
y'know, kind of like, shut up about the taxes we haven't paid!
Thanks! |

on the lawn... | ||

help yourself. It's a bermuda grass lawn, by the way, and the base paths aren't marked. If you're not frightened of either bermuda grass or
hopelessly-lost baseball players running frantically about, go for it!

Picture with soccer lines drawn

Here's a picture of the new CAB infield and with soccer lines drawn. You can see it isn't quite parallel with the left field line, which makes sense
because of the way the wall is down that way. I'd love to see an overhead of the whole field but guess the private T-Bones helicopter wasn't
available. You can see where the dirt infield was and get a feel for where 2nd and 3rd are in the picture.

Well, I AM willing to concede...

...it was purely cosmetic in nature. But, I am so MUCH more focused now! It's simply AMAZING. Further, it's improved my rhythm, so now I can REALLY
dance!!!

It seems to me that the lack of baselines and all is more of a blow to the beauty of the ballpark than the notch in the outfield. They can at least have a
closing notch that is not entirely noticeable. The field is gonna lose some charm. All in all, soccer forced itself on a beauty, hopefully CAB recovers with
its pride intact.
