Posts: 5400 ( 7-Nov-07 06:53:54) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None In his blog, Bob Wirz has this new entry: MYSTERY HIRE TO MAKE FOR MORE COMPETITION IN AMERICAN ASSOCIATION This is to be the fourth new managerial announcement by his count: 1. Chad Tredaway - FtW 2. Pete Incaviglia - GP 3. Terry Bevington - Shreveport And it does not include: George Tsamis - StP Tim Johnson - Lincoln Steve Shirley - SF So it leaves either the manager for Wichita or SC (since CB and StJ are all but certainly dead). Who will it be? Hal Lanier? All Bob says is: The Thursday news will bring another solid Independent Baseball manager back onto the field fulltime. We'll see who and where this will be.

The Thursday news will bring another solid Independent Baseball manager back onto the field fulltime. Could be Kash money for some team! Or Hal... les could be more.... who else with a big time pedigree is out there.... It's worded as .... I'm thinking Kash though.. as BACK is the operative word... All others i can think of would have been on the field last year.... The only other guy is Stan Hough.. but that wouldn't be a big hire, as he was already in the league. Beauchamp and the team's new pitching coach will also be introduced tomorrow, as will the team's ownership group. I am sorry but I have talked to both of them and Mr. Lanier has by far more to offer than Kash does on and off the field. Kash is a good guy and I am happy for him and wish him the best of luck. Does anyone know where Hal will end up? Joliet should put an announcement out if they are not going to bring him back and announce the new manager. What is going on there?

I'm not sure what Kash really brings to the table these days but I do remember his NoL playing days at the start of the NoL. One thing he brings (over Hal) is a wealth of connections from the C-AL and SCL not unlike what Tsamis had when he came from NJ to the Saints. Speaking of the SCL, given that Kash was their Director of Operations one might wonder how well things are in that league.

One also might wonder the state of mind Kash is in. Five jobs in five years, he's shown that he's the Larry Brown of Indy ball. Just seems weird that he would keep switching jobs year after year. My point is NLfan maybe it's not the league maybe it's him. Maybe he wants too much too soon. NO startup indy league is going to come in and be like the old northern league. As far as Lanier.. did you see some of the decisions he made this season?? I hate to say this about a man who USED to be a great manager, but he just doesn't have it anymore. I think there is a little truth that young guys bring more to the table.

If it were players think again, they had a good team and good players. I don't believe Hal is over the hill as you are trying to say. How many All Stars did he have(5). Mr. Lanier is still ahead of other managers in the game. Age has nothing to do with it. How many managers don't coach third base, like Hal does and he is one of the best at that(making decisions). He also has a lot of connections in organize ball. So please tell me what are you talking about.

Second, money, I don't think its really about if Hal is a solid on field manager. Indy ball is about money and Hal makes alot. Third, is yet again money, Hal has had a "player guy" for years, he cost more money, Kash is a "player guy", again the money points to Kash as a better option. Looking at what Kash has done, he's been up and down, just like about 90% of the guys who do this, he gives them a very good chance of winning games in the first year, in a tough division.

To many times you see expansion franchises getting off on the wrong foot by signing a "big name" type guy with no independent connections to manage a new team. Connections in Indy ball go a long way. Especially for an expansion franchise more or less starting from scratch. Kash is a good manager and a good hire.

Let him go to a team where there is less talent and see if he gets them over the top.

With a lesser team is anyone going to be successful. The best manger in the world if he has a bad team is not going to do good, Hello. Even with good teams, it is always up to the players to perform on the field for a manager to be successful. I have been a scout and a fan for a long time and I see a lot of Indy games and I can say that Hal is still one of the best managers around. It is sad to see a good person as Mr. Lanier is to be leaving the NL and all that he brought to the NL over the years. I also think the NL should offer him a job in some capacity to keep him in the NL. Still have not heard what Joliet is doing for a manager for next year but have heard some rumors that doesn't sound very good. Also do you see Schaumburg or KC getting rid of there managers and Joliet had a better record than the both of them. Joliet did finish second in there division and with a six team league for next year I am sure Joliet would have made the play offs in 2008. It takes time to build a team and with some of the good players that Joliet had this year I bet some of them will not return if Hal is not there.
