Well at least they admit the reasons for things moving slowly ...."It's certainly more than doubled the workload," says Chris Presson, president of the Thunder organization. "They say to be careful what you wish for you might get it. We got what we wanted. We have a baseball team now, but the workload has increased a lot."
Adding to the challenge is the fact that the yet-to-be-named baseball team will be competing in the American Association, an independent league, with a yet-to-be-determined manager and yet-to-be-determined roster.
Paraphrase: They built us a shiny new stadium where we could make more money.Bob Rich, owner of the Wranglers, admitted last fall that the reason he decided to move the team to Arkansas was because his team was a distant third in its baseball devotion behind the Shockers and NBC Tournament.
"The Wichita Wranglers are probably a bad third out of the three," Rich said last fall. "People love Shocker baseball, they love the NBC. ... I really don't think (the Wranglers) are truly part of that community."
OK but here's the scary part:
The writer (shock) don't understand this isn't a summer collegiate league. Hopefully low level college programs won't be feeding the new team anything. And if NBC players make it on the roster lets hope It's a promotional night with Alf.Many of the ballplayers on the new team will be familiar to local baseball fans. Robertson will use WSU, Friends University and Newman University as feeder programs and there might also be some NBC tourney players that find their way onto the 22-man roster, which has a league-mandated $100,000 salary cap and a number of other restrictions.
