When I first read about the own your own team I too must admit it sounds like a big joke. You own a piece of the team but you get no financial reward if the team turns a profit, you assume no risk, you still must pay to get into the stadium. But you do recieve, "Each owner receives a wide array of iTeam Sports and team merchandise valued over $80, including hats, t-shirts, mugs, owner ID card with lanyard. Additionally, all owners have exclusive voting rights to a dedicated online...

Anyway back on track to make the previous poster happy:

Bill does have a point. If you can raise the capital that way, do it. Public ownership of pro sports teams isn't unusual. I believe the Green Bay Packers are completely a public entity if I am not mistaken. And if Ventura can do something like that in Brighton more power to them.

As the guy running this thing (who's a bit distracted at the moment to worry a lot about "off topic, 'hot stove league'" discussion... I'd say that if VSG is trying behind efforts and Brighton AND unusual minority ownership that it's not a terrible example of "threadjacking."

If you talked to the guy running it, then you must know that he very much prefers that people...all together now...STAY ON TOPIC. What's the topic of this thread? That's right class, Brighton. I tried to ask kindly before. Now, I'm no longer interested in playing nice.

As for you, apparently you don't have to try to be rude in order to succeed. Spare me the wisecracks about the Constitution, please, unless you'd like a long rebuttal about the responsibilities...

And that means being able to respond to any post of yours or anyone else's in here with an opinion of my own.

Not trying to be rude guys, but I was hoping to keep the conversation here to the possibility of Brighton getting an indy team. I would think you can debate the fan ownership angle all you like on the thread in the AirHogs forum.

Scam? When I see the word scam it usually indicates a ripoff of some kind. While it may not be YOUR ideal for team ownership it might be someone else's. Not everyone can come up with $50,000 like the Cruisers ownership group so they may go for this.

Many people dream about being a part owner or full owner of a sports franchise and they may not ever get to that point but this gives them an opportunity to feel like they've made it.

This type of "ownership"...

In the same league press release about the 16 by '11 expansion plans there is this portion about Brighton.

At the meeting, representatives of a group looking to place an American Association team in Brighton, Colorado made a presentation to league directors, and directors were enthusiastic about the prospect of Brighton entering...

The City of Brighton (Col.) has reached an agreement to purchase 19.35 acres of property adjacent to U.S. Highway 85 and intends to build an outdoor events complex there. This site is adjacent to and is an integral part of downtown Brighton.

For a team with a new ballpark lease to pay down, it usually takes that much. Teams in established, older (and sometimes formerly empty) ballparks don't pay as much. For example the papers in St. Joe suggested that they could break even at 1K/gm.
