BPD reports (with no story links) that: Topeka announces design competition for new ballparkQuote:The city of Topeka (Kan.) has announced a design competition for a new multi-use ballpark, with submissions due at the end of September.

... the city apparently feels it's in a position to make a new ballpark happen.Hmm... sounds like a internet contest to me. Let's punch it up a little:

Design a Ballpark for Topeka! Win Cash!

The artist sketch of the stadium in T-Town looks pretty good. Nice to see there's no mention of, "...retractable roof..." and

The safety of a ballpark's surroundings matter, but I'd say that there's a lot fewer issues with locations around Topeka than other larger cities.
Prairie towns like Topeka, SF, SC and Fargo simply aren't as "dangerous" as Chicago or Gary. It a concern, but not a big one (like the ridiculous
fears some had in Schaumburg thinking that a ballpark would itself raise crime rates in the Village).
