Canaries sold to Stampede

There are very few details but, according to an Argus-Leader article, the Canaries have just been sold to the Sioux Falls Stampede (hockey team). Terry Pendergrass indicates that main owner Ben Zuraw had several offers for the 2008 AA Champs. There's also a brief quote:

The contracts of both Kris Regas and Beau Torbert have been sold to the Detroit Tigers organization.

Gotta be happy for both of them to get a shot at making the big leagues, but it's sure going to hurt us next season.

I see in the paper that Pat Mahomes was traded to the Canaries to complete a trade. Did he start out with the Canaries and go

Holy cow, 26 runs scored on 27 hits. The 26 runs by the Canaries is a new single season record in the AA. Shreveport starts the year with a 21 run performance, and end (yes, there is still a game left) giving up 26.

First, it's great to see him again and the ads are really funny. There are three of them where the players are "preparing for the coming season in the office because the new stadium isn't ready."

Upgrading the Visitor's Locker Room -- $210,000

This doesn't affect fans, but BPD put up a link to an Argus Leader story about the Canaries request to spend $200K to upgrade the visitor's locker room. There's a lot of agreement that the locker room --which is unchanged since the 60's-- is "cozy at best." The vote is set for Jan 16.

As Mr. Hendricksen said on KWSN (Thursday): "What took so long?"

It is obviosu from the quotes of messers, Veeck, Kuhn, and Zuraw (Argus Leader) that some of the fun had been drained by the association of NL teams.

Fourteen falls ago a wild idea of bringing back independent baseball was making the rounds and a few smart cookies jumped on the idea (Sioux Falls being the first).

With the track record of the three clubs involved, I expect nothing but...

The A Pole Gang

After reading some posts on the Canaries forums I was pleased to find the A Pole Gang. This is a great group of Canaries Fans / Tailgaters. I look forward to meeting this group some time this season when I make the trip to the Bird Cage.

I'm pleased that not only do they support their team, they enjoy tailgating and already have their own custom T-Shirts. I love the "Relief Pitcher"...
