The Canaries' 2008 schedule breaks down in some interesting ways. I think we better make a run for the play-offs in the first half.

Reasons:
In the first half, we have 26 home games and only 22 away. In the second half, it's reversed.

In the first half, we play 35 intra-divisional games but 23 of those games are in Sioux Falls - we play a single three-game series each...

Benny's back

An old fan favorite and somewhat successful manager is back in Sioux Falls: Benny Castillo

He'll be the Canaries hitting coach.

Besides playing for the Canaries and Saints he also led the Dukes to the 2000 NoL Championships and was the last manager to get the Xs into the post season.

What's most interesting is that Benny has been living in SF since 1996 (when the "card" below came out). In the release he notes that this job will be good for...

Congrats to Pat Mahomes for getting signed by Toronto. Maybe his career will start again.

Just like to get some opinions on the passing of Mile Coolbauch. He went to HS here in San Antonio. It was such a freak accident, and makes you wonder as long as baseball has been played that only one other player has died on the field. I think I would start wearing a helmet if I was coaching the bases!

In case you didn't catch the news, the Canaries had none other than former Twins pitcher Pat Mahomes. Yes, apparently it's still possible to sign former MLB talent into indy leagues other than the AtL.

But the Canaries are making an effort to make this season's opening night at the Bird Cage a lot more memorable. Between the fly-over before the game and the fireworks after it, it sounds like a major event to go along with hosting the ASG in July.

First, it's great to see him again and the ads are really funny. There are three of them where the players are "preparing for the coming season in the office because the new stadium isn't ready."

This doesn't affect fans, but BPD put up a link to an Argus Leader story about the Canaries request to spend $200K to upgrade the visitor's locker room. There's a lot of agreement that the locker room --which is unchanged since the 60's-- is "cozy at best." The vote is set for Jan 16.

It is obviosu from the quotes of messers, Veeck, Kuhn, and Zuraw (Argus Leader) that some of the fun had been drained by the association of NL teams.

Fourteen falls ago a wild idea of bringing back independent baseball was making the rounds and a few smart cookies jumped on the idea (Sioux Falls being the first).

With the track record of the three clubs involved, I expect nothing but...

Ok. Im a goldeyes fan and know very little about the group that owns? the saints and canaries but do the 2 clubs do a lot of the same stuff or are each influenced by the goldklang group. because i was looking at the pocket schedules and the 2 look very same with the fun is good. NLFAN do you know if they are influenced heavily by the goldklang group. I think i know what im talking about feel free to correct me
