Maybe there was just nothing much of interest in it.

AA not getting into Amarillo

BPD has a short story about the Amarillo Dillas renewing their lease for the Dilla Villa. It appears the AA made a pitch to get in but was turned down. The 2-year lease will, short of any ULB collapse or defection by the Dillas, suggests that league expects to be around for a while. In fact, the lease includes an extension option that would add 2 more years if exercised.

Bob Flori, former skipper of the Shreveport ballclub (2005 - 2007) has passed away in St. Petersburg, FL. He was 70 years old. Bob was a tough competitor and solid baseball man. He will be missed. JPD

Oddity on League Records Page

I was just browsing through the AA's League Records pages and noticed this:

Balks, Season: 3, Brian Rodaway, Lincoln and Sean Donlin, Sioux Falls, 2006.
Balks, Game: 3, several.

Now, I suppose that two could technically be considered "several," so it's not necessarily wrong. But it does look funny.

What has happened to Thad this year? He was released by the Captains, is he hurt or the money not equal to what he was giving? If healthy I could see another team giving him a shot would be a nice addition.

First Half Analysis, anyone?

First half of the season is over already. Congrats to Fort Worth and Wichita for securing their playoff spots.

Anyone else want to offer an opinion of the first half?

Makes me wonder what we have this year with only two teams finishing above .500 in the first half out of ten teams. Is it that only two good teams exist and the others are all that bad? Or is it mediocrity except for Fort Worth and Wichita? I like to think the teams in the South have improved this season...

What teams do you think will join the AA in 2010? Should have Sugarland, maybe some ULB teams will be able to make the jump. But whats the ideas and thoughts and possiablities for expansion??

Me and the wife just got back from a game at Quick Trip Park home of the AirHogs. We were watching a college game. My wife wanted a hotdog so being a good husband as I am went to get one price $4.50 for a dog. Well you know what never again! I made up my mine and decieded not to renew my season tickets with the AirHogs! My questions is how much for a hotdog at your ball park??? Whats so funny you go to a QT store you get 2 for $2 dollars!!! Go figure! Gotta have my sweet tea!

Amarillo and San Angelo 2009 for AA???

There was some talk at the Captains press conference about Amarillo and San Angelo joining the AA for 2009. The Amarillo going to the North and San Angelo to the South thus the even 12 teams for 2009. Do they have enough time to redo a schedule for the 2009 season? We already hear Omaha and Sugar Land for 2010 giving the AA 14 teams. Whats your take on this? Gotta have my sweet tea!

They passed a new tax for a stadium for Sugar Land, Texas yesterday! So is the AA going to put a team there??? There is also talk of triple AAA Omaha might come down. Can they or will the Astros say no way??? The taxes is for a $25 million stadium similar to the AirHogs stadium so that would be perfect for the AA. There also a little tidbit of a story at ballpark digest website.

Baseball America has a listing of its top 10 unsigned prospects in the independent ranks, including several American Association players:

#4 - Shawn McGill, C, Lincoln
#5 - Jon Hunton, P, Fort Worth
Worthy of note - Paul Phillips, P, Pensacola

Also, former Sioux Falls pitcher Javier Garcia was listed as one of the top independent players who had already signed with an organization (he was sold to Boston early in the season).
