Well the off season is in full swing and the Caps have already made a couple moves. The caps have acquired SS Pedro Lopez and RHP Steve Spurgeon from the Southern Illinois Miners to complete a trade made earlier. The league site has the new 2010 league schedule for all teams. And a quick check shows that all teams have added them to their websites as well (in one form or another).

House Cleaning

When I asked about the house cleaning I meant the players. A lot of the responses to my last question were about front office. Now that we have been graced by the company of the GM, does anyone want to talk about the roster of next years Jackhammers. There are a few players who I think should be back, no questions asked. But if they indeed try to get a bunch of frontier league players and younger guys I don't think that will be the case. They've already made the most ridiculous...

Richard Austin

Looks like the RiverHawks have signed a familiar face. I see that Richard Austin will Return to Northern League only not to the FM RedHawks where he left to play in Italy but to his old Frontier League stomping ground where he won a batting title and was the league MVP and helped the RiverHawks win the Frontier League Title in 2004. Good to see him back in the Northen League. He should be a good addition for the RiverHawks. From the looks of it he was signed as a player/coach.

This move is the first of many to come. According to my source, who has always been right on these things, Joliet is looking to form a team of all young, inexperienced guys. They know they will finish last anyways, so they figure they might as well lower the payroll to try and save some money. Apparently, Toole thinks fans will come watch young guys that play hard, even if they lose most of their games. Me, personally, I doubt it. Joliet is nicknamed "City of Champions", not...

Can you believe what they are doing now? The JackHammers seeming to be on their last life line kill it dead. They go and let go of their top sales people? What are they thinking? Stating they can't pay their bills but they can keep people on there staff that can't sell? Mind boggling to me! See what they don't know is when you do things like that and there is quite the following for those staff members... They won't be coming back. Not to mention other things that are...

2010 Schedule

I just got a copy for the 2010 schedule.

First game is May 20th for a 4 game series in Rockford. Opening day is May 25th against KC.

First away in Lake County is June 24th.

Season ends Sept 5th at home again Winnipeg.

OK, let's see if I make any sense with this.
Let's assume the Fielders are a road team for most of the year and let's say they are in the middle of a "homestand."

They are scheduled to play ... oh .... Rockford, just for the discussion. They play the home games at Rockford and wait for their next opponent, who'd be ... say, Winnipeg, which is currently playing at Joliet. After the Peg finishes that series, they hop on a bus, go back to Winnipeg, play...

Good Luck to Anthony Esquer and Brett Wallace. It was great having you both in a Railcat uniform. You both will be missed. As Tagert was quoted in The Times, Both are deserving of being full time starters somewhere. Too bad it's not in Gary. I'll remember your 5 hit day in Winnipeg, Anthony, and Brett, your 7 RBI day will stand out in the memory banks. You both gave many quality starts behind the plate. Redhawks loss Fielder Gain.

Redhawks lose Garry Bakker and Matt Mossy. Not really suprised the the Redhawks did not protect Bakker or Mossey with only being able to protect 11. Bakker certainly pitched a lot of innings for the Redhawks last season leading the team in that catogory and Matt pitched some great spot starts and did well out of the Bullpen. I am sure Josh and Simmy can come up with a replacements but they will both be missed and I wish them the best of luck in Lake County.
